KJ Loft Conversions Questions & Answers

Q. How can I find out what type of conversion is possible with my property?

A. We are very happy to provide any help and advice free of charge. Please just call us and we can arrange to come and look at your property, or initially discuss the options in general terms with you by telephone.

Q. By how much can I extend my property?

A. Up to 70 m3 with permitted development or no limit with full planning permission.

Q. How long do projects normally take?

A.  It is difficult to give a timescale because it really depends on the nature of the work and each project is different. That said a typical conversion could take between 5 and 8 weeks, and an extension between 8 and 12 weeks.

Q. Do I need planning permission?

A. It really depends on what work is being undertaken. As a rule of thumb any alterations to the roof will need planning permission, as will any dormers that face a highway.  Unless it is under permitted development and to the rear of the property.

Q. Will you help me with getting planning permission?

A. We are very happy to talk you through the process, and advice you in any way we can with our preferred architects.

Q. Can you advise me on the rules regarding building regulations?

A. Yes please just contact us.

Q. Do you provide free quotations?

A. We will be delighted to give you a no obligation quotation free of charge.

Q. Do I need to get an architect to do the designs?

A. It is not essential, although we do strongly recommend you use an architect.

Q. How much will it cost to get an architect to do the designs?

A.  Depending on your type of work, prices start at around £200 plus VAT.

Q. Can you recommend an architect?

A.  Contact us with your address and we will provide you with the contact details of your nearest preferred architect.

Q. Is my roof high enough for a conversion?

A.  If the height is 2.1 metres or more from the floor to the underside of the apex then it will be considered high enough.

Q .What are the rules on fire safety?

A. If your conversion is on the 3rd level, there are certain fire regulations that will apply.

Q. Can I see examples of your work

A. We will be delighted to arrange for you to see examples of work we have done, and if convenient we will arrange for you to speak to some of our clients.

Q. Why should I choose you over other companies?

A.  We are very proud of our reputation, both for the quality of our work, and our customer service. The proof however is not in what we say, but in what our customers say about us.
